Singapore before 1819 ( done by group 7 : Germaine , Natalie ,Suraj , Nicholas ) Introduction Singapore before 1819 was a prosperous and thriving trading port and it was a third world country. The thriving trading port was a settlement established in the island Singapore by the British. The island was controlled by different kingdoms in Southeast Asia including the Siamese, Javanese, from the 14th century and the Sultanate of Johor from the 16th century. Political Aspect Due to its prosperity in trade and its growing economy, it aroused the jealousy of neighboring countries and they started trying to take over Singapore, and one of them, the Majapahit kingdom, broke through Singapore’s high level of defense in 1398 and therefore taking over Singapore temporarily. Economic Aspect Singapore before 1819 was a prosperous and thriving trading port. Traders from other countries like China brought in goods to Singapore for trading purposes. For example, Chinese porcelain items were traded in from China and ceramics from Thai kilns entered the trade market. Coins were also used for payments. Social Aspect For Social Aspect, Singapore before the 18th century had and was a trading port. All the valued goods traded such as ornaments , spices , food and cloth , it aroused a lot of attention from other traders thus this caused good relations between the people in Singapore during that period of time and people of neighboring countries. Political / Social / Economic Aspect Singapore before 1819 had a very prosperous trade industry which aroused the jealousy of other kingdoms which lead to war and foreign occupation. From these foreign influences from other people of other cultures there were many people of many different cultures living in Singapore before 1819. Conclusion Our Group can conclude that Singapore during that time frame was popular and more or less the best trading port in the entire world. It is not only a fishing village where everyone thought it was. It was more than that , it was a popular trading port that aroused traders attention. (342 words)
