Singapore before 1819 ( done by group 7 : Germaine , Natalie ,Suraj , Nicholas ) Introduction Singapore before 1819 was a prosperous and thriving trading port and it was a third world country. The thriving trading port was a settlement established in the island Singapore by the British. The island was controlled by different kingdoms in Southeast Asia including the Siamese, Javanese, from the 14th century and the Sultanate of Johor from the 16th century. Political Aspect Due to its prosperity in trade and its growing economy, it aroused the jealousy of neighboring countries and they started trying to take over Singapore, and one of them, the Majapahit kingdom, broke through Singapore’s high level of defense in 1398 and therefore taking over Singapore temporarily.
